About The Battle

The Food Battle is a 3 – day event where up to 60 (young) professionals from the food industry will participate in finding innovative solutions to complex challenges in the Food Industry. 

As an employer, you have the opportunity to define the challenge relevant to your organization. During the event, the participants will come up with innovative concepts as a start for the solution to your challenge. 

The teams will go through the steps of STUDIO.WHY Design Thinking. There will be a masterclass for each step followed by a hands-on session. Our experienced facilitators will guide them through the process to arrive at a design concept. In the end, the teams will pitch their ideas to you, the other teams, and a legends lair, who will choose a winning team.

Our experienced facilitators will also ensure that the battle is a lot of fun by spicing up the event with energizers and creative techniques. 


After the event you and the participants will have the following outcome:

Context Day

Teams try to understand the challenge by interviewing stakeholders and end-users.

This day is all about building context and inspiration for trends.


Creative Day

Teams undergo a series of creative initiatives and brainstorming sessions.

We use many tools like MIRO Boards and LEGO Serious Play.


Concept Day

Teams finally develop the main concept and test it with the stakeholders.

After iteration, they pitch to the legend's lair and other teams in an open battle!

*STUDIO WHY will make arrangements for the accommodation, food (breakfast, lunch & dinner), snacks, coffee, and other beverages.


The event will be hosted by STUDIO.WHY at a fee per participant.

Cost per participant = € 1,395.00  € 1,650.00

*Special rate till June 15th, 2022

Cost per participant (when 5 or more register from one organization) = € 999.00

  • Invoices will be sent after reserving your seats
  • Payment is due within 30 days after the invoice

*For the event we require a minimum of 20 participants to be registered. STUDIO WHY reserves the right the cancel event. We will refund the money if this happens.

The Food Battle will be on the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd of September 2022.

The monumental location of the Food Battle will be at the train station of Geldermalsen. STUDIO.WHY is located in the 19th-century building on platform 3B. This way it is easily accessible for everyone by train. Thanks to the immense parking lot behind the train station, you can park your car there free of charge.

We offer this hackathon at €1.650,- per person.

Early bird discount till June 15, 2022:

  • €1,395.00 per person 
  • € 999.00 per person if  you register 5 or more people from one organization at once.

Prices include hotel for the two nights in between, coach shuttle service to the hotel during the event, all meals, catering at the venue and materials. The prices are excluding VAT.

When you submit 5 or more participants from your organization our Event Lead will contact you about the possibility to submit a challenge. She will meet up with your primary contact person and talk to you about what your challenge contains.
