Aventus – Innovation Day

CHALLENGE

Once a year the school “Aventus” hosts a learning day for their complete staff, called Aventus Learns. This time STUDIO.WHY was asked to come up with a full day program for 1,000 participants that was both fun and educational. Giving participants a first excperience with the mindset of innovation and help them tackle real life challenges in their day to day work.

Knowing that this day is a mandatory day to be present, their might be some resistance in participating. Also, there would be a big variety in background, age and experiences. This day needed to be fun and educational to all.

SOLUTION

Specifically for Aventus we designed a full immersive Innovation Experience. This Serious game was to see who could come up with the best idea for their challenge. With 100 teams of 10 people divided over different zones there was a lot of competition to beat for a team.

With a starting budget in fake currency they could “hire” trend watchers, energizers, humanizer and investors. Investors would actually give you money if you were onto something good or doing good work but needed the money. Through different lights on the table people could see which team was ahead and who was on the rise.

The methodology of entrepreneurial Design Thinking was the foundation of their process. The team that followed the process the best, had the most money or won the heart of the facilitators per zone, was allowed to pitch their idea for a full theater of people and a Dragons’ Denn.

RESULT

This day taught people that innovation can be done at any time at any place. Also, it gave people a beginning of what Design Thinking is. Most of all people got inspired in many new technological and societal trends.

This day was the start of a innovation program within Aventus.

"Usually about 20-30% is still here at the end of the day, today only 20-30% went home."
