BDO – Talent Development

CHALLENGE

Annually, every employee at BDO has planning, progress and performance reviews. Among other things, this process is necessary to ultimately arrive at an objective valuation of development and results. This assessment is a necessary prerequisite for achieving a salary increase and possible bonus. It is a standardized, time-consuming process with little room for the individual, and which does take time to fill out all kinds of forms. BDO wanted to change this and came to STUDIO.WHY with the question:

“How might we focus on the development of talent within BDO, so we will ecome more agile?”

BDO Experience

SOLUTION

We set up a multi-day experience with and for BDO, which included participants from both BDO and some from outside the organization. During this experience, 4 teams went through a sprint, with two teams focusing on this challenge. They focused on a specific area within BDO to see if we could arrive at initial solutions there and then scale up to other areas.

RESULT

The two-day event resulted in two concepts. the first was called BDO discovery, a yearlong program for startups where they can discover who they are and where their talents lie by rotating in different places within BDO. They receive good guidance focused on their own development. This also allows them to spar well with each other and also allows them to get to know more people from many different disciplines within BDO.

The other team came up with the BDO talent shop, where you can walk in and shape your own journey through BDO. You can see here what opportunities (flavors) are available within BDO. The idea here is to experiment, you can choose to go faster or slower, all depending on your own needs. In this place you will find people who have experience in talent development. So it is no longer the manager who fills that role, but rather an objective person who is able to understand you in order to map out a good journey for you.
