ROC Rivor school – Innovationweek

CHALLENGE

ROC Rivor, a vocational school in the Netherlands, was determined to bring more project-based learning into its classrooms. That’s why one of its teachers took on the ambitious task of organizing an Innovation Week for 150 students from seven different programs. That’s where we at STUDIO.WHY came in.

SOLUTION

We knew that this was a huge undertaking for the school, and we were determined to do everything in our power to make it a success. We designed a comprehensive program to support the school in executing the week’s events, providing everything from design and training materials to help 20 teachers act as facilitators to catering and event styling to coaching during the event.

Over the course of three days, students worked tirelessly in multidisciplinary teams to tackle a complex challenge posed by Rabobank. On the fourth day, they presented their prototypes to company and government representatives and pitched their ideas to a panel of judges. The final day was devoted to celebrating the hard-won learnings of the week.

RESULT

The results were truly extraordinary: 38 teams learned how to work together and solve a difficult challenge, and it was the first time students from such a diverse range of programs came together in this way. The winning team was even offered an internship at Rabobank to turn their concept into a reality.

Thanks to the success of the Innovation Week, the school has decided to expand the program next year to include 400 students. Other schools have even expressed interest in participating and innovating education together. We are so proud to have been a part of this transformative experience for the students of ROC Rivor and beyond.
